Since the WinPE media doesn't care what kind of image you're dealing with (x86 or 圆4), and any X64 processor can run as an x86 machine if you wish it to (load up an x86 WinPE), you should be fine creating any kind of X86 media from that XP machine if the XP version of Macrium allows you to. If Win10 does not support x86 machines (I believe it does), I would use the PE5 version instead.

it has a much larger collection of universal drivers that should work in most machines. as Drac suggests, you should probably use the newer Win10 Recovery Media. If that XP machine allows you to create an x86 Recovery Media. Philipster, if your X64 machine has an X64 processor in it (which it does), it can run both 圆4 and x86 Operating Systems without issue. Personally I would use the latest version of WinPE (which I think is 10 or 10.1) since it will have the most current hardware drivers and features. If you do not need the features of WinPE 5 the version 3 is also fine. You could create a Linux based rescue environment and still backup and restore your partitions.

The rescue environment has no relation to your OS of choice. Using WinPE 5 is a good option since it includes USB3 drivers (if neither of your computers has USB3 then obviously this is not important).

If you have hardware (a processor) that can run in 64 bit mode you can create a 64 bit version of the rescue disk. In answer to your first question, the version of Win PE you use is not related to your OS. Can I somehow use the existing WindowsImageBackup file to restore via Macrium? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. vhd in Windows XP, as I could in Windows 7. vhd file and create a new image using Macrium. BUT - how do I create a rescue disk that will work on my Windows 7 圆4 machine? Or does that even matter? Because if I create a WinPE 4 rescue, I assume it will have the drivers for my hardware, but does it matter that I can only create a 32-bit rescue from the 32-bit machine? Or can I run Macrium Reflect to restore my machine in WinPE 3 32-bit without difficulty? Second problem: I was told on the SevenForums to try and mount the.

So.my issues here: I am working off a Windows XP laptop (works perfectly fine, won't be upgrading!) so when I install Macrium Reflect 6 Home, I create a rescue disk as recommended. After about a month of trying various options, none of which have worked, I am here. Even connecting the My Cloud device directly to the computer via Ethernet cable, I was unable to "see" the WindowsImageBackup from within Windows Recovery Console. Unfortunately I saved the WindowsImageBackup folder on a network (WiFi) NAS drive (WD My Cloud). vhd file that I thought was the solution to my problem, after I purchased a new hard drive. Greetings All, I am hopeful folks can assist me - I was directed to Macrium by a moderator at SevenForums, so I'm given this is "the place!" A bit of background: I suffered a hard drive failure on a Dell XPS 8300 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
